ASCS ready for first Non-Winged race.
TULSA, Okla. (April 15, 2003) - In its twelfth year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing, the American Sprint Car Series will present its first ever non-winged event in just a couple of short weeks, as the ASCS Sooner Region Sprints will shed their wings and take to Creek County Speedway's quarter-mile semi-banked clay oval in Sapulpa, OK, on Saturday night, May 10.
The May 10 ASCS Sooner Region card will mark the first ever ASCS event to be contested sans wings. It is expected that the Sooner Region regulars, led by defending champion Danny Jennings of Norman, OK, and current 2003 point leader Kevin Ramey of Ft. Worth, TX, will be joined by several ASCS National Tour regulars, as the ASCS National Tour has an off night after a Friday, May 9, event at Oklahoma City's State Fair Speedway.
The non-wing event will be the fifth of 15 slated points races for the competitive ASCS Sooner Region in 2003. Ramey topped a 38-car field to win the season opener at Creek County Speedway on March 22. The Sooner Region gets back underway on April 26 at Oklahoma Sport Park in Ada, before going on to Lawton Speedway on May 3. The Sooner Region then joins forces with the ASCS National Tour on May 9 in Oklahoma City, before going topless for the first time the next night at Creek County Speedway.
This year, with the O'Reilly National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers and the three Regional series (Gulf South, Rocky Mountain and Sooner), the ASCS will present approximately 100 nights of racing at nearly 50 different tracks in fourteen states. The May 10 Sooner Region event at Creek County is currently the only event slated to be a non-winged affair.
Creek County Speedway is located twelve miles southwest of Tulsa, one mile west of I-44 Exit 211 on State Road 66. For more information, contact the track at 918-247-6675 or 918-838-3777.
