Preston Peebles II Rallies to Top 10 Finish in NCRA Opener
Jetmore, Kansas - Texas driver Preston Peebles II made his presence known this past weekend at the Jetmore Motorplex where he rampaged to a seventh place finish in the NCRA Sprints main event this past Saturday night, earning hard charger honors from his seventeenth place starting spot in the process.
Thirty-one cars were on hand for the race, which saw four heat races and Peebles emerging from a sixth place starting spot in heat three to claim fourth. Shortly there after, Peebles cruised to a transfer spot in the B main to line up seventeenth in the 20 car A main field. When the green flew, Peebles quickly made work of a slew of cars using the bottom groove. Once clear, the 19 year-old put the bright-orange #11P Maxim on top in turns 1 & 2 setting himself up for a clever pass on defending series champion Mike Woodruff in turn 3, along with disposing of another car in turn 4 in the same lap. From there on, Peebles went on a terror moving through the field. Unfortunately for Peebles, the race went caution free and the cars were spaced out in sizable distances. On the final lap Peebles ran down fellow Texan Derek Drown for the sixth spot, but an unsuccessful slide-job would leave Peebles impressive drive in the seventh place spot for the nights 30-lapper. "This was a real good night for us. The Maxim was awesome. I could drive it anywhere I wanted, or needed to for that matter. I could pass low, high, middle. Wherever the guy in front of me wasn't, I was there and made it work." Commented Peebles after his top ten run.
Round two for NCRA was scheduled for the following Sunday at 81 Speedway in Wichita, KS but was rained out after heat races. Preston finished third in his heat, which included WoO driver Terry McCarl, Brian Brown and CJ Johnson. Preston leaves the weekend ranked fifth in NCRA points due to his hard charging performance in Jetmore. Next race on Peebles slate is Oklahoma City, OK with ASCS on May 20th, then back to NCRA at Dodge City, KS and Wichita, KS May 21st and 22nd.
