O'Reilly ASCS National Tour set to Kick off at Devil's Bowl
TULSA, Okla. (March 10, 2005) -- While race fans can whet their appetites for Sprint Car racing with this Saturday night's American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region opener at Champion Park Speedway in Haughton, LA, the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores fires into action with next weekend's 32nd Annual Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals in Mesquite, TX, on March 18-19.
A talent-laden field is expected for the National Tour opener next weekend as Hooks, TX, ace Gary Wright kicks off the defense of his 2004 ASCS National title. Wright has claimed eleven of his series' best 90 career victories atop the famed half-mile Devil's Bowl clay.
Wright will face plenty of worthy foes including ASCS National Tour regulars Travis Rilat, Darren Stewart, Toby Brown, A.G. Rains, Jan Howard, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., Jimmy Taylor, Natalie Sather and Brodix Rookie of the Year contenders Tony Bruce, Jr., Eric Jobe and Lee Sowell.
Drivers from as far away as Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska and New Mexico are expected to be on hand for the Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals weekend, with a number of top ASCS Sooner Region and ASCS Gulf South Region competitors expected to join the mix as well.
Next weekend's opener marks just the second time in fourteen years that the O'Reilly ASCS will kick off its National Tour at Devil's Bowl Speedway. The series last kicked off at Devil's Bowl Speedway in 2001 when Larry Neighbors beat Aaron Berryhill and Michael Dupuy to the stripe.
Several of the National Tour regulars are expected to tune up for the Devil's Bowl Spring Nationals with this Saturday night's Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region opener at Champion Park Speedway in Haughton, LA.
Devil's Bowl Speedway is located six miles east of Dallas' I-635 on US 80, then three miles south on Lawson Road. Both nights of racing, March 18th and 19th, are set to get under way at 8:00 p.m. For more information, contact the track at 972-222-2421.
Since its inception in 1992, the ASCS has sanctioned 413 National Tour events at 88 different tracks throughout 18 different states, with 73 different drivers posting at least one feature victory.
In 2005, the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores will present in excess of 40 nights of racing at more than 20 different tracks throughout Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas.
In total, including the National Tour along with the Gulf South, Sooner, Rocky Mountain, Midwest and Southern Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will sanction approximately 120 nights of racing at approximately 50 different race tracks throughout at least 15 different states in 2005.
