ASCS Midwest Region Championship Finale Friday at US 36 Raceway
TULSA, Okla. (September 6, 2006) -- The American Sprint Car Series Midwest Region will put the wraps on a stellar 2006 season in appropriate fashion by taking to the blazing-fast high banks of U.S. 36 Raceway in Cameron, MO, this Friday night.
And, for the second year in a row, a Lincoln, NE, racer can come away from the season finale as series champion, as Toby Chapman can lock up the title by simply starting the "A" Feature event. Last year's ASCS Midwest Region champion was Billy Alley.
Chapman found the high-banked, 3/8-mile U.S. 36 Raceway clay oval to his liking earlier this season by scoring his first career ASCS feature victory during the Midwest Region's June 23 stop in Cameron.
Chapman enters the finale with a 63-point lead over 16-year-old rookie sensation Jack Dover of Springfield, NE. With an outside shot at the title, Dover aims for his first series win and tries to hold off Lincoln's Mike Chadd for the runner-up slot. Chadd is 34 markers back in third.
Rick Ideus of Silver City, IA, enters Friday's card ranked fourth, with Lincoln's Jason Danley rounding out the current top five. The balance of the current top ten includes Jake Peters (Sioux Falls, SD), Chad Humston (Giltner, NE), Luke Cranston (Ness City, KS), Mark Pace (Lincoln, NE) and Chuck Swenson (Watertown, SD).
With a dozen ASCS Midwest Region events logged into the books thus far in 2006, eight different drivers have visited victory lane. Brian Brown has scored three wins, with Peters and Wade Nygaard each scoring two wins. Other winners include Chapman, Alley, Garry Lee Maier, J.D. Johnson and Jason Johnson.
Friday's card gets under way at 8:00 p.m.
U.S. 36 Raceway is located 50 miles northeast of Kansas City on I-35 to Exit 54, then 6.3 miles west on US 36, then 0.1 mile north on SR 33, then east. For more information, contact the track at 816-675-2279.
