ASCS gears up for MMP double.
TULSA, Okla. (April 21, 2003) - The top contenders on the O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers are set to take on the top guns in the Memphis area during a two-night event on Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, at Memphis Motorsports Park.
The series' third weekend of racing action in 2003 will mark the first of three visits to MMP's quarter-mile oval for the ASCS National Tour, with return trips slated for July 18 and September 12.
Headlining the large field of expected entries are 2001 ASCS National champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, and a pair of Texas hotshoes, Gary Wright of Hooks, who ranks as the ASCS career feature win leader, and Forney's Travis Rilat. In his quest for a second ASCS championship, Chappell won the season opener on April 5 in Murfreesboro, AR.
While Chappell, Wright and Rilat are among the series' leading contenders, they'll face plenty of stiff competition from the likes of top ASCS National Tour regulars Darren Stewart, who recently won the season opener at MMP, Toby Brown, Cody Branchcomb and Rick Behr. The MMP regulars will provide plenty of competition as well, including defending track champion Eddie Gallagher, Mike Ward, Terry Gray, Jan Howard, Dale Howard, and Bryce Vowan among others.
In conjunction with the weekend's racing action, Darren Stewart of Bixby, OK, will be meeting with fans and have his car on display at the Love's Travel Stop located in Palestine, AR, on Friday, April 25, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Piloting the Memphis-area based Bobby Sparks owned Sprint Car, Darren claimed his first ASCS National victory at MMP last September. Darren is just two points out of the lead in O'Reilly ASCS National points following this past weekend's event at Devil's Bowl Speedway. Just a short drive from Memphis, the Love's Travel Stop in Palestine is located at I-40 and Highway 261 (I-40 Exit 233).
More than 30 Sprint Cars are expected for each night of racing action at MMP. Racing action is slated to begin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday night and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night.
The 2003 O'Reilly Auto Parts American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers features more than 50 nights of racing at 27 different tracks throughout Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Including the Regional events throughout the Gulf South, Sooner and Rocky Mountain Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 100 nights of racing at nearly 50 different tracks in fourteen states.
