O'Reilly ASCS Revs Up for Sole Louisiana Weekend of '05

TULSA, Okla. (May 2, 2005) -- The O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores invades the state of Louisiana for the only time in 2005 this weekend, as the series stops off at Fast Trax Speedway in Chatham on Friday night, before moving on to Haughton's Champion Park Speedway Saturday night.

Taking on the National stars will be the contenders from the Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region, as both nights are point events for the Gulf South Region as well.

Bixby, Oklahoma's Darren Stewart and Hooks, TX, ace Gary Wright lead the way into the weekend atop the pair of Louisiana quarter-mile semi-banked clay ovals. Stewart carries a slim six-point advantage into the weekend over defending series champion Wright, who collected his 91st career ASCS National Tour feature triumph in the series' most recent outing on April 23 at Memphis Motorsports Park.

Byhalia, MS, championship contender Jan Howard enters the weekend third in points, just two markers behind Wright. Leading Brodix Rookie of the Year contender Jake Martens of Fairview, OK, is currently ranked fourth, with other Rookie contenders including seventh-ranked Tony Bruce, Jr., of Liberal, KS, and Lee Sowell of Nesbit, MS.

Other top O'Reilly ASCS National Tour contenders expected to be on hand for the Louisiana double include 2003 series champion Travis Rilat (Forney, TX), 2004 Rookie of the Year A.G. Rains (West Memphis, AR), Sam Hafertepe, Jr. (Sunnyvale, TX), Jimmy Taylor (Oklahoma City, OK) and ASCS iron man Toby Brown (Carthage, MO), who enters having competed in 202 consecutive ASCS National Tour events.

Bolstering this weekend's field of entries on both nights will be the racers of the Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region, with Chris Sweeney of Humble, TX, holding a narrow series point lead after the opening three events. Sweeney enters the weekend just four points ahead of Downsville, LA, racer Stephen Chevallier, with Texans Greg Rilat and David Kulhanek tied for third just two more points back.

Other top Gulf South Region competitors expected for the weekend include Scottie McDonald, winner of the series most recent feature event, along with March 12 Champion Park Gulf South Region winner Ray Allen Kulhanek, Lane Whittington, Darryl Wills, Tommy Bryant, Richard Holt, Bo Alexander, Greg Coleman, Eric Payne, Terry Monroe, David Forbis and Ty Johnson.

More than 30 entries are expected for both nights of racing action.
