O'Reilly ASCS Set for Louisiana Double
TULSA, Okla. (August 26, 2003) - The O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers joins forces with the ASCS Gulf South Region for a pair of events this coming weekend in Louisiana.
Saturday night, the series makes it second stop of the season at Champion Park Speedway in Haughton, LA, before moving on to Fast Trax Motorplex in Chatham, LA, on Sunday night. Current series point leader Travis Rilat will also be appearing at the Love's Travel Stop located in Greenwood, LA, (I-20 Exit 3) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Travis Rilat of Forney, TX, leads a four-way dogfight for the championship into the weekend's racing action. With five series triumphs to his credit, not including his recent $10,000 triumph in the Kele World Challenge at Knoxville, Rilat carries a 32 point lead over 2001 ASCS National Champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, into the weekend.
Darren Stewart, leading Brodix Rookie of the Year contender, is just 34 points out of the lead in third, while Hooks, TX, veteran hotshoe Gary Wright has notched a series-best twelve feature triumphs this season and is just 36 points out of the lead.
Rilat, Chappell, Stewart and Wright will be joined by other top National shoes including three-time series champion Tim Crawley, Cody Branchcomb, Toby Brown and Jimmy Taylor.
In pursuit of a second consecutive ASCS Gulf South Region title, Kelly Angelette of Thibodaux, LA, leads the Gulf South forces into the weekend. Angelette has notched three victories en route to establishing a 36 point lead over Texas City, TX, shoe Greg Rilat, father of the O'Reilly ASCS National point leader.
Rookie contender Sam Hafertepe, Jr., of Sunnyvale, TX, enters the weekend third in Gulf South Region points, 46 points out of the lead. Another pair of rookies, Brandon Berryman and Cody Pearson round out the current top five, with Tina Creswell, Todd Johnson, Stephen Chevallier, Chris Sweeney and David Forbis completing the current top ten.
The 2003 O'Reilly Auto Parts American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers features nearly 50 nights of racing at 25 different tracks throughout Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Including the Regional events throughout the Gulf South, Sooner and Rocky Mountain Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will present close to 100 nights of racing at nearly 50 different tracks in fourteen states.
Nearly 30 cars are expected for each night of racing action.
