O'Reilly ASCS Ready for Little Rock
TULSA, Okla. (September 26, 2005) -- The O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores is set for its third and final appearance of the season atop the high-banked, quarter-mile I-30 Speedway clay oval in Little Rock, AR, this Saturday night.
Current series point leader and defending champion Gary Wright of Hooks, TX, leads the way into Little Rock, where he has recorded nine of his series' best 102 career feature wins. Gary Wright topped the July 9 stop at I-30 Speedway, while Tim Crawley was a June 11 winner at Little Rock. Both those feature events were won from the eleventh position.
With a dozen wins on the docket this season, Wright has stretched his point lead to 238 markers over Darren Stewart with just three nights of racing remaining. The season-ending Devil's Bowl Speedway Winter Nationals on October 21-22 is the only remaining ASCS National Tour event following Saturday's card at I-30 Speedway.
From Bixby, OK, Stewart has scored three ASCS National Tour wins this season, while also picking up three wins in weekly competition at I-30 Speedway.
Hailing from Liberal, KS, leading Brodix Rookie of the Year contender Tony Bruce, Jr., enters the night ranked third in points. Bruce nearly captured his first series victory during the series July 9 stop at I-30 Speedway, only to have a caution flag negate a pass for the lead. Bruce ultimately finished third behind Gary Wright and Mike Ward that night.
Just 19 years old, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., of Sunnyvale, TX, enters the night ranked fourth in points, just 70 points behind Bruce. ASCS Ironman Toby Brown of Carthage, MO, enters the night ranked fifth.
Rookie of the Year contender Jake Martens from Fairview, OK, is sixth in points, with Oklahoma City's Jimmy Taylor, 2001 ASCS National champion Zach Chappell of Talala, OK, and Mississippi shoes Jan Howard and Lee Sowell completing the balance of the current top ten.
Saturday night's racing action at I-30 Speedway is slated to go green at 7:30 p.m.
I-30 Speedway is located seven miles southwest of Little Rock, AR, off I-30 Exit 126. For more information, contact the track at 501-455-4567.
