KNOXVILLE, IOWA (July 26, 2003) - Lance Yonge of Penn Yan, New York, Dave Ely of West Lawn, Pennsylvania, and Tyson Hart of Monmouth, Illinois, are the latest 'top guns' to enter the Sunday, August 10th Brodix Tournament of Champions at the Knoxville Raceway. Ely is the current United Racing Club (URC) point leader, while Hart leads the Sprint Invaders Association (SIA) point standings. Yonge and the Mal Lane's Yamaha team will be making the long tow to Knoxville following the Friday night, August 8th, Empire Super Sprints (ESS) point show at their home track in Dundee, New York, an event which is annually run in conjunction with nearby Watkins Glen's NASCAR Winston Cup Series race weekend.
According to Knoxville director of racing Ralph Capitani, "I can't believe the effort that some of the guys and gals are making this year to be part of the Brodix-sponsored event. I know that Mal, who has run our Nationals before, and Lance both enjoy running on our big half-mile. But, to make the haul from their home track of Black Rock Speedway on Friday night to be here on Sunday night is quite a task! We really appreciate Lin & Cindy Hough and Gary Montgomery of Black Rock, and Dick Carbery, Mike Seiver, Chuck Miller and Dean Reynolds of ESS, for working with us this year. Our fans will enjoy seeing ESS veterans Lance Yonge, Rob Dietrick, Mike Woodring and Erin Crocker at the Tournament. Maybe we can even send four of our guys out to Black Rock this September 5-6 for their $4,000-to-win Bully Hill Vineyards Fall Sprint Nationals!"
Dave Ely of URC and Tyson Hart of SIA join fellow point leaders Rick Ideus of Eagle Sprint Touring Series (ESTS), Kevin Ramey of American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Sooner Region, Darren Stewart of ASCS, Jesse Giannetto of Knoxville Raceway, Roger Crockett of Northern Sprint Tour (NST), Dustin Daggett of Sprints On Dirt (SOD), Eric Schrock of Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW), Mason Hill of Montana Sprint Tour (MST) and Roger Rager of the WISSOTA Promoters Association as entrants in the prestigious 'national championship' invitational. In addition, entries have recently been received from Jason Danley of ESTS, Bobby Mincer of SIA, Jimmy Kouba of WISSOTA, and Joe Beaver of Knoxville.
This year, an expected 75 competitors from fifteen sanctions will be invited to compete under one common set of rules utilizing the Brodix ASCS spec head. Drivers must enter the Brodix ToC and have competed in a minimum of sixty-percent of their sanction's events by July 31st in order to even be eligible to compete. A maximum of ten invitations will then be issued from each affiliate's point standings, in order, from the point leader on down.
