TULSA, Okla. (August 2, 2004) - Some unfinished business will be brought to fruition this Friday night at Knoxville Raceway as the O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and Classic Trailers contests the main events of Knoxville's ASCS 360 Nationals on Friday night.
The makeup of the $10,000-to-win event originally scheduled for June 12 leads into Sunday night's Brodix Tournament of Champions, in which 15 of the top ASCS drivers will take on more than 70 other top 360-ci drivers from throughout the nation.
Louisiana native Jason Johnson and Nebraska's Billy Alley split victory honors in preliminary action for the Knoxville 360 Nationals on June 11 and 12 before heavy rains forced the postponement to this Friday night.
Friday night's card, which kicks off nine consecutive nights of racing in Southern Iowa, will consist of the 360 Nationals championship C, B, and A Main events. While John Kearney and Jason Johnson make up the front row of Friday's main event, fifth-starter Zach Chappell will be the ASCS regular to start closest to the front of the finale.
Other regular ASCS contenders already locked into the main event include Sooner Region regular Sean McClelland (13th), current National point leader Gary Wright (14th), former series champion Gary Lee Maier (15th) and Sooner Region contender Tony Bruce, Jr. (19th).
Four drivers will advance from the B Main, which includes ASCS shoes A.G. Rains (10th) and Foster Landon (20th).
Two drivers are slated to advance from the C Main, which features ASCS guns Randi Miller (2nd), Shane Stewart (3rd), Darren Stewart (7th), Cody Branchcomb (10th), Toby Brown (17th) and Travis Rilat (18th).
Fifteen ASCS drivers are scheduled to compete in the Brodix Tournament of Champions at Knoxville Raceway, which features $4,000-to-win on Sunday night. Each of these drivers is also eligible to compete in Saturday night's preliminary show.
Representing the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour will be current series point leader Gary Wright, defending series champion Travis Rilat, 2001 series champion Zach Chappell, 1992 champion Garry Lee Maier, Darren Stewart, Toby Brown, Cody Branchcomb and Brodix Rookie of the Year contenders A.G. Rains, Sam Hafertepe, Jr., and Natalie Sather.
Four drivers will represent the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region, including Sean McClelland, Tony Bruce, Jr., Preston Peebles II and Foster Landon, with Ray Allen Kulhanek representing the Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region.
The nation's premier touring 360-ci series, the American Sprint Car Series, comprised of the National Tour and Sooner, Gulf South and Rocky Mountain Regions, will present more than 80 nights of racing at more than 40 different tracks throughout 15 different states in 2004.
