MEMPHIS, TN (SEPTEMBER 12)- Applicants for the recently announced KIDD (Knoxville International Driver Development) Program are reminded of the upcoming application deadline of September 30, 2001. This unique program will offer an international sprint car driver the opportunity to race at Knoxville Raceway during the 2002 season under the tutelage of Hall of Fame Mechanic Bob Trostle.

The Knoxville International Driver Development Program is intended to encourage and promote International Sprint Car racing worldwide and encourage International competition for the Kele World Challenge at Knoxville, Iowa.

Each year, a racer from a country that promotes sprint car racing will be selected by a panel of individuals representing the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum, the Knoxville Raceway, and the racetracks that hold qualifying races for the Kele World Challenge.

To be eligible, a driver cannot have raced in the US more than 10 times in any given season or have competed in more than 20 total races in the US during his/her career. This driver must be recommended by a recognized authority and considered championship material by the countries they represent. The program will have the driver compete in Knoxville Raceway's weekly 410 program with the annual Kele World Challenge being the pinnacle of the season during the Knoxville Nationals each August. The program will be coordinated under the guidance of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum, and each year the selection committee will announce a driver for the KIDD program at the National Sprint Car Poll post-season awards reception in Indianapolis, IN.

The Kele-sponsored KIDD Program will provide the selected driver the opportunity to race in some of the finest equipment available. Product sponsors include J&J Auto Racing sprint cars, Gaerte Engines, Sander Engineering components, and Lev Wings. The team will be loyal to these manufactures throughout the season and provide sponsor recognition through international press releases, weekly races at Knoxville, The Knoxville Nationals and the Kele World Challenge.

To request an application please contact Tom Schmeh (National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum) at 800-874-4488 or Roger Johnson (Kele & Associates) at 901-385-8271.
