Minter Records Career-Best Run at Cowtown
KENNEDALE, TX (June 9) -- Kathryne Minter wasn't about to let a change in her racing schedule affect her Saturday.
Although threatening weather deterred her from racing at "The Home of the Nationals" -- Knoxville Raceway -- she put together a career-best performance at Cowtown Speedway. Minter drove her family's #13m Concrete Crushing Company J&J into eighth place at the high-banked, ¼-mile oval.
"I really wanted to go to Knoxville because I wanted to experience it sooner than later, but we were afraid the race would be rained out," Kathryne said. "So we raced at Cowtown. The track was really dry -- it was dry even before we went out for hot laps -- so that was a challenge."
Minter finished fifth in the First Heat Race to qualify for the fifth row inside starting position in the "A" Feature.
"We started on the pole in our heat race, but we missed the setup a little bit," Kathryne said. "We had some new crew guys with us last night -- Roger (Leescamp) and Sheldon (Leescamp) -- and we spent the night getting on the same page. We were a little bit too loose in the heat race, but we definitely got it right for the feature. I avoided plenty of wrecks; people were spinning out left and right. I just stayed out of trouble and got my best finish ever at Cowtown."
"We're pleased to add Roger and Sheldon to our team," Car Owner Mike Minter said. "We believe they will bring plenty of valuable experience and help in some areas where they have special talents. Sheldon should be able to communicate well with Kathryne since they're close to the same age."
Minter plans to race in Friday's American Sprint Car Series Sooner Division event at State Fair Speedway in Oklahoma City. She finished 14th in an ASCS Sooner race at Cowtown Speedway on April 14th. She plans to run an ASCS Gulf South race at Fast Trax Speedway in Chatham, LA, Saturday. Kathryne ranks 17th in the ASCS Gulf South point standings.
