Hoosier Tires signs three-year sponsorship package with California Sprint Car Civil War Series

Competitive sprint campaign will now boast $20,000 championship fund in 1999

ROSEVILLE,CA 12-15-98- The officials of the California Sprint Car Civil War Race Series are proud to announce that Hoosier Tires will become a key sponsor of the traveling series dedicated to 360 cubic inch powered sprint cars in 1999. John Padjen, founder and promoter of the Civil War series, signed a three-year sponsorship package today with Hoosier Tires West which will become the official tire of the Civil War Series and will bring the 1999 Civil War Championship fund up to the $20,000 level. This is more than twice the amount of the previous Civil War championship bank roll which is divided up accordingly to the top ten point earners in the campaign annually. The 1999 Hoosier Tires Civil War series will consist of 12-races at five different California tracks. With the newly acquired sponsorship package, competitors will be required to run Hoosier Tires on both rear wheels for each Civil War sanctioned event. According to Padjen, a grace period for this requirement will be honored as many race teams have stock on other brand tires. Last season, 125 different drivers representing all five of the Western States competed and earned points in the Civil War campaign which consisted of 14 races at four different California tracks. In 1999, Antioch Speedway will be added to the series for the first time and a total of 12 events have been scheduled for the series which is expected to continue to grow in popularity among both competitors and spectators. "Over the past three years the Civil War series has undergone great growth and many improvements," said series Media Director Bill Sullivan. "This sponsorship is obviously a step in the direction of further progress and we expect it will draw even more competitors to the series in 1999 which will broaden the competition for the championship title." In addition to the Civil War sponsorship package, Hoosier Tires has also joined forces with Placerville Speedway and Silver Dollar Speedway where the championship funds will undergo a great increase. According to Padjen, the 1999 racing season is due to be one of the most lucrative for all three venues. "The season to come is definitely looking to be a good one," said Padjen. "We had good car counts last season and with Hoosier Tires joining us I expect we'll have an even better field for all three championships this year." The 1999 racing season is scheduled to begin on March 20 with the first Civil War event kicking off at Twin Cities Speedway in Marysville. Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico will also open in March with the annual Mini-Gold Cup. The opening of Placerville Speedway is scheduled for April 3 with a Northern Auto Racing Club event. The complete schedules for all John Padjen Motorsports venues are scheduled to be released later next week.
