Hesston, PA -- The opening race for the 2002 Hesston Speedway season has rained out April 13.

Hesston Promoters Butch and Linda Grubb announced the cancellation at 10:30 a.m. to minimize inconvenience for race teams and fans.

The rain pushes the Hesston opener back to April 20 with pit gates open at 2 p.m. for safety inspections and the grandstand open at 5 p.m. for a five-feature event with the Hesston Speedway 305 Sprints, Shellbrook Stables Limited Late Models, Grubb Lumber V-8 Street Stock, Goshorn Racing Supply Four-Cylinder Pure Stock and Chet Grove's Cars Unlimited V-8 Hobby Stock divisions.

The April 20 racing will be a no-points event to provide a chance for drivers and crews to work out any 'bugs' but will pay regular Hesston purses. The first points race will be the Goshorn Racing Supply Trophy Night April 27.

The Hesston Speedway is located just north of Route 26 opposite to the Seven Points access to Lake Raystown. It's about five miles south of Route 22 in Huntingdon and 45 miles north on Routes 30W and 26 from the Breezewood Exit 12 of the PA Turnpike. For information call the track at 814-658-2823 or consult the new Hesston Speedway website at www.hesstonspeedway.com.
