Hagerstown, MD (February 22) - Don Kreitz led flag to flag to win the thirty lap sprint car feature at Hagerstown Speedway today. Starting on the front row, Kreitz jumped out to a comfortable lead over polesitter Judi Bates at the end of the first lap.

The race was only stopped twice for yellow flags.

Kreitz easily pulled away from the field on restarts but trouble with traffic almost cost him late in the race. With less than three laps to go, Krietz squandered his huge lead by getting together with the lapped car of George Suprick in turn three. That was all that Sean Michael needed to challenge Kreitz for the lead.

But Kreitz was up to the challenge. Sean Michael was ten car lengths back as Kreitz passed under the white flag.

Judi Bates, who started on the pole, drove a solid race, running second until lap nine, when she was passed by Sean Michael. Bates ran comfortably in third until the last restart on lap nineteen. On the restart, Judi was relegated to sixth place when she was passed by the trio of Kenny Jacobs, Todd Shaffer and Fred Rahmer. Bates finished sixth.

Lance Dewease came to Hagerstown looking to claim his third straight opening day win at the half mile clay oval. Dewease started fifth but was passed early by Kenny Jacobs and Ed Lynch. Dewease fought his way past Lynch and engaged in a battle with Jacobs. On lap sixteen, Dewease spun in turn three bringing out the yellow flag. Three laps later, Lance was sent to the rear again, as he was involved in the second caution period too. Dewease stopped on track trying to avoid Brian Paulus as Paulus brought his car to a stop in turn three. Dewease finished twelfth.

In the 40 lap late model feature, Marvin Winters took the checkered flag first, followed by Gary Stuhler in second and Rick Eckert in third.
