ASCS MID-SOUTH VS. GULF SOUTH REGION SHOWDOWN THIS WEEKEND!
TULSA, Okla. (May 8, 2006) -- 67 Texarkana Speedway and Fast Trax Speedway will serve as the venues this weekend as the all-new American Sprint Car Series Mid-South Region squares off with the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region.
Round One of the Gulf South vs. Mid-South Showdown takes place atop 67 Texarkana's quarter-mile clay on Friday night, with Round Two on Saturday night in Chatham, LA, at Fast Trax Speedway's quarter-mile oval.
Both series feature tight championship points battles with just two markers separating the first and second place drivers, with 20 or fewer points separating the top five in each series.
Bixby, Oklahoma's Darren Stewart escaped the ASCS Mid-South Region's opening weekend with a two-point edge over Byhalia, MS, racer Jan Howard, with the balance of the top five including Dale Howard, Michael Herrington and Gary Wright.
Although shut out of victory lane through three events thus far, Gary Watson of Beaumont, TX, leads the ASCS Gulf South chase by two points over the "Racin' Cajun", Jason Johnson, who scored a sweep of the series most recent weekend of action. Rounding out the current top five in points are Greg Rilat, Chris Sweeney and Darryl Wills.
A stout field of entries is expected for both nights of racing action atop the pair of fast, 0x00bc-mile clay ovals in Arkansas and Louisiana. Friday's card at 67 Texarkana Speedway gets under way at 7:30 p.m., with Saturday's Fast Trax event going green at 7:00 p.m.

The 2006 ASCS Gulf South Region schedule consists of 25 events at ten different tracks throughout Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.
The inaugural season for the ASCS Mid-South Region currently consists of ten events at eight different tracks throughout Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Louisiana.
In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing at nearly 100 tracks throughout 27 different states and Canada in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
