ASCS Gulf South Region Takes on Texas
TULSA, Okla. (August 16, 2005) -- The Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region fires back into action this weekend with a Friday-Saturday double in southeast Texas.
Friday night, the series makes its third stop of the season at the high-banked 0x00bc-mile Motorama Speedway gumbo clay oval. The high-banked 3/8-mile Houston Raceway Park clay oval is then on tap for Saturday night.
Current series point leader Ray Allen Kulhanek of Danbury, TX, swept the series most recent Motorama-HRP double on June 17 and 18. Victorious in the series most recent outing on July 30 at Champion Park Speedway in Haughton, LA, Kulhanek enters the weekend with four wins to his credit and a 28-point advantage over Stephen Chevallier of Downsville, LA, in the championship points race.
In his first full year on the ASCS Gulf South Regional tour, Lane Whittington of Denham Springs, LA, is a close third in points, with Scottie McDonald of New Caney, TX, and Greg Rilat of Texas City, TX, rounding out the current top five.
The balance of the current top ten includes David Kulhanek (Danbury, TX), Richard Holt (McLeod, TX), Larry Hartwell (Pasadena, TX), Chris Sweeney (Humble, TX) and Greg Coleman (Hillister, TX).
Friday night's racing action at Motorama Speedway is slated to get under way at 8:00 p.m., while Saturday's first green flag at Houston Raceway Park flies at 7:30 p.m.

The Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region will contest 22 events at ten different tracks throughout Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi in 2005.
In total, including the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour, the Southern Tour and the Sooner, Gulf South, Rocky Mountain and Midwest Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will sanction more than 100 nights of racing in 2005 at approximately 50 different racetracks throughout at least 18 different states.
