ASCS Gulf South set for South Texas Double
TULSA, Okla. (April 11, 2005) -- The Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region fires back into action with a pair of events in southeast Texas this Friday and Saturday night.
The series kicks off the weekend atop the high-banked, quarter-mile Motorama Speedway gumbo clay oval in Beaumont, TX, on Friday night. Friday's Motorama event marks the first of three scheduled stops for the Gulf South Region in Beaumont, with a fourth tentatively slated for September.
From there, the series moves on to the Gator Motorplex in Willis, TX, on Saturday night. It will mark the first ever stop for the ASCS Gulf South Region atop the high-banked, quarter-mile red clay oval.
By virtue of winning the series' season-opening event at Champion Park Speedway in Haughton, LA, on March 12, Ray Allen Kulhanek of Conroe, TX, leads the points race entering this weekend's event.
In an event that featured four lead changes, Kulhanek took command in the final rounds at Champion Park to score his first career series victory. Kulhanek will look to add to the win column and secure his point lead after finishing fourth in Gulf South Region points last year despite missing one race.
Kulhanek will be joined by a stout field of competitors including '04 Motorama Speedway Gulf South Region feature winner Stephen Chevallier, '04 Gulf South points runner-up Chris Sweeney, Greg Rilat, Charlie Brown, David Kulhanek, Darryl Wills, Scottie McDonald, Richard Holt, Ty Johnson and many more.
Friday night's racing action at Motorama Speedway is set to go green at 8:00 p.m. Motorama Speedway is located 9.5 miles west of I-10 on US 90, then south. For more information, call 409-752-7200 or 409-753-2370.
Saturday night's card at Gator Motorplex is slated to get under way at 7:00 p.m. Gator Motorplex is located off I-45 Exit 98 (Shepherd Hill), then east, then 1.4 miles south on SR 75. For more information, call 936-588-6127.
Saturday night at Gator Motorplex, each ASCS Gulf South Region entry will receive ten free gallons of methanol courtesy of Superior Race Fuels.
The 2005 Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores ASCS Gulf South Region schedule consists of 23 events at eleven different tracks throughout Louisiana Texas.
