ASCS Gulf South Region kicks off Saturday at Fast Track Motorplex.

ASCS - TULSA, Okla. (March 30, 2003) - After a successful inaugural season in 2002, the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region kicks off its second season of action this coming Saturday night (April 5) at Chatham, Louisiana's Fast Track Motorplex. The inaugural ASCS Gulf South Region Spring Nationals, which features $2,000 to win, marks the first of 17 slated events for the ASCS Gulf South Region in 2003.

Reigning series champion Kelly Angelette of Thibodaux, LA, gets his title defense under way as he takes on a loaded field of sprinters, including top title contenders Chris Sweeney, Todd Johnson, Jimmy Brooks, Ian Brown, Greg Rilat and Tina Creswell.

A number of rookie candidates, including Sam Hafertepe, Brandon Berryman, Brad Stokes and Cody Pearson will be on hand as well, as they contend not only for Rookie of the Year honors, but also a coveted trip to victory lane under the ASCS Gulf South banner.

Overall, approximately 30 cars are expected for Saturday night's racing action, which is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m.

Fast Track Motorplex is located between Shreveport and Monroe, four miles southeast of SR 34 in Chatham, LA, on SR 4.
