ASCS Gulf South Region Announces 19-Race 2004 Slate

TULSA, Okla. (January 13, 2004) - With two successful seasons already in the books, the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region announced a 19-date slate for the 2004 season.

Ten tracks throughout Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas are slated to host the ASCS Gulf South Region in 2004, with Battleground Speedway and Houston Raceway Park set to host five total events. Also new on the ASCS Gulf South Region schedule in 2004 is Heart O' Texas Speedway in Waco, which hosts the Heart of Texas Championship on June 18.

The 2004 ASCS Gulf South Region is set to kick off its season with the first of four stops at Thunder Valley Speedway in Union Hill, LA, on March 13 with the inaugural ASCS Gulf South Sprint Nationals, featuring $2,000-to-win. Thunder Valley Speedway also hosts the second leg of the Louisiana vs. Texas Memorial Day Shootout on May 30, the first leg of the July 4th Weekend Louisiana Challenge on July 3 and the Third Annual ASCS Gulf South Championships on September 25, featuring twin features.

Battleground Speedway in Baytown, TX, will host the first of four events on April 10, with the Ronald Laney Memorial Championship. The series returns to Battleground on May 29 for the first leg of the Texas vs. Louisiana Memorial Day Shootout, August 7 for the John Bankston Memorial Championship and September 18 for the inaugural ASCS Gulf South Texas Championship.

The Fast Trax Motorplex in Chatham, LA, will host a trio of events, including the Second Annual ASCS Gulf South Spring Nationals on April 17, the second leg of the July 4th Weekend Louisiana Challenge on July 4 and the Third Annual Labor Day Classic on September 4.

Waco's Heart O' Texas Speedway will host the ASCS Gulf South Heart of Texas Championship on June 18, with Houston Raceway Park hosting the inaugural ASCS Gulf South Summer Nationals on July 10.

The ASCS Gulf South Region will return to Devil's Bowl Speedway on June 19 for the Second Annual ASCS Sooner vs. Gulf South Region Shootout, the first edition of which proved to be a resounding success in 2003.

The ASCS Gulf South Region will also join forces with the O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour presented by Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores and United Trailers on four occasions, including stops at Sixty-seven Texarkana Speedway (April 30), Champion Park Speedway in Haughton, LA (May 1), Paris (TX) Motor Speedway (August 20) and Southwest Arkansas Super Speedway in Murfreesboro (August 21).
