HAUGHTON, Lou. (June 12, 2004) 0x2022 Greg Rilat notched his first Love's Travel Stops & Country Stores American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region feature triumph of the year by topping Saturday night's 25-lapper at Champion Park Speedway.

After Kelly Angelette and Jeff Day battled for the point much of the way, Rilat took command in the race's latter stages to secure the victory aboard the Motor Mike-powered TSR Truck & Trailer Sales/MSD Ignition No. 35 Maxim.

While Day led the feature field to the green flag, it was two-time series champion Angelette who jumped into the lead at the outset. Fourth-starter Jerry Bell raced into second by the third round, only to bring out the caution soon after when he stalled his mount in turn four while dodging a slide job from Day.

With Bell out of the picture, Angelette and Day diced for the lead until the 16th lap, when Day unsuccessfully tried a slide job on Angelette in turn four. Day clipped Angelette's front end and flipped out of contention, with Angelette continuing.

Angelette resumed his pace on the restart, only to have Rilat slide by for the lead in turn three two rounds later. Following Eric Payne's turn four flip on lap 22, Rilat raced to the stripe unchallenged.

Brandon Corn charged from fifth to second after the lap 16 stoppage and held the runner-up slot to the line. Angelette fought off a last-lap bid from Rick Behr to claim the show position. After starting deep in the field, Behr crossed the stripe fourth, with Brad Stokes edging 17th-starter Todd Johnson at the line to round out the top five.

Johnson maintained a two-point advantage over Rilat in the series points chase with his sixth-place finish. Completing the top ten were Chris Sweeney, Larry Howery, Rod Craddock and Tony Krites.

Heat race victories were claimed by Day, Sweeney and Howery.
