Through the season's opening 14 events, Rowlett, TX, shoe Jerry Bell has moved atop the point charts in his first bid for Gulf South title honors. Bell holds a narrow 14 point lead over Chris Sweeney of Huffman, TX, with 2003 points runner-up Greg Rilat of Texas City, TX, just eight more points back in third.

While the Texas trio of Bell, Sweeney and Rilat are virtually knotted atop the point standings with three events remaining, Eunice, Louisiana's Todd Johnson remains in contention as well, just 75 points off the lead pace.

Stephen Chevallier of Downsville, LA, has climbed to fifth in points, just one marker ahead of Conroe, TX, shoe Ray Allen Kulhanek. Completing the top ten in current points entering Saturday night's event are Brad Stokes (Kountz, TX), Scottie McDonald (Porter, TX), Richard Holt (McCloud, TX) and Rod Craddock (Alvin, TX).

Two-time series champion Kelly Angelette, with two Gulf South wins this season, is expected for Saturday night's action, as is O'Reilly ASCS Brodix Rookie of the Year contender Sam Hafertepe, Jr., who kicked off the ASCS Gulf South season by winning the season opener at Thunder Valley Speedway on March 13.

Waco's Heart O' Texas Speedway host a third series outing on Friday night, October 15, with the Gulf South vs. Sooner Region Shootout at Devil's Bowl Speedway on October 16 wrapping up the 2004 season.

Saturday night's action is slated to get under way at 7:00 p.m.
