TULSA, Okla. (September 8, 2003) - Action resumes for the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region this Saturday night as the series makes its first stop of the season at Many Motor Speedway in Many, LA.

Saturday night's event at Many Motor Speedway will be the twelfth of fourteen events for the ASCS Gulf South Region in 2003, with events remaining at Thunder Valley Speedway in Union Hill, LA, on September 20, and Battleground Speedway, with a date to be announced following last Saturday night's rainout.

Closing in on a second consecutive series championship, Kelly Angelette of Thibodoux, LA, leads the ASCS Gulf South troops into Saturday night's event. Angelette has posted three feature victories this season in ASCS Gulf South competition.

Angelette enters the event with a 50 point lead over Texas City, TX, shoe Greg Rilat. The veteran Rilat is just four points ahead of Sunnyvale, TX, teen rookie driver Sam Hafertepe, Jr., in the battle for second in points. Hailing from Missouri City, TX, Brandon Berryman is ranked fourth entering the weekend, with Todd Johnson of Eunice, LA, rounding out the current top five.

The leading lady of the ASCS Gulf South Region, Tina Creswell of New Braunfels, TX, is ranked sixth entering the Many event, with Cody Pearson (Sulphur, LA), Stephen Chevallier (Downsville, LA), Chris Sweeney (Huffman, TX) and David Forbis (Bossier, LA), completing the current top ten.

Approximately 25 cars are expected for Saturday night's racing action at Many Motor Speedway, which is slated to get under way at 7:00 p.m.
