Ante Upped for ASCS Gulf South Opener at HRP

TULSA, Okla. (April 3, 2006) -- The stakes have been raised for Saturday night's American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region season opener at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, TX, with the 25-lap feature winner collecting $2,500.

Butch Doyle, promoter and owner of Motorama Speedway in Beaumont, TX, has added nearly $2,500 to the total purse, including an increase in feature start money to $400. Doyle added to the purse when forced to cancel Friday's scheduled opener at Motorama due to ongoing cleanup and repairs from last September's hurricanes.

With the added incentive, O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National championship contenders Travis Rilat of Forney, TX, and Jason Johnson of Eunice, LA, are expected to make a strong bid for Saturday night's increased winner's share.

Other top Gulf South shoes expected for the event include Greg Rilat, Lane Whittington, Stephen Chevallier, Scottie McDonald, Chris Sweeney, Brandon Berryman, Brad Best, Darryl Wills and 15-year-old Channin Tankersley.

Houston Raceway Park is located in Baytown, TX, east of Houston on I-10 to Exit 798, then three miles south on SR 146, then 0.8 mile southeast on FM 1405, then 1.5 miles northeast on FM 565. For more information, contact the track at 281-383-RACE.

The 2006 ASCS Gulf South Region schedule consists of 25 events at ten different tracks throughout Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.

In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
