ASCS Gulf South Season Finale Saturday Night at Pike County

TULSA, Okla. (October 9, 2006) -- The 2006 season for the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region wraps up with this Saturday night's championship finale at Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, MS.

Hailing from Beaumont, TX, Gary Watson enters the finale with a 31-point advantage over defending series champion Ray Allen Kulhanek of Danbury, TX. Watson can secure the '06 series crown with a finish of 15th or better in Saturday's feature.

While Watson and Kulhanek battle down to the final checkered flag for the series title, Texas City racer Greg Rilat enters the card ranked third, just 19 points behind Kulhanek.

Louisiana's Lane Whittington enters the finale ranked fourth, with Larry Hartwell rounding out the top five. The balance of the current top ten includes Kent Lewis, Jr., Richard Holt, Brandon Berryman, Skip Wilson and Tommy Bryant.

Saturday night's ASCS Gulf South Region season finale gets under way at 8:00 p.m.

Saturday's card marks the 19th ASCS Gulf South Region event of the 2006 season. Nine different drivers have visited ASCS Gulf South victory lane thus far in events contested at nine different tracks throughout Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.
