ASCS GULF SOUTH SHIFTS JUNE 7 EVENT TO 105 SPEEDWAY
TULSA, Okla. (May 29, 2008) -- A late change to the schedule will find the American Sprint Car Series Gulf South Region in action at 105 Speedway in Cleveland, TX, next Saturday night, June 7.
The series was originally slated for Louisiana's Champion Park Speedway on June 7. The event tentatively slated for June 6 at Sabine Motor Speedway in Many, LA, was erased from the schedule two weeks ago.
Next Saturday's event at 105 Speedway will mark the second of three scheduled stops for the ASCS Gulf South Region atop the semi-banked 0x00bc-mile clay oval. Jason Johnson topped a 25-car field on April 5, with the series also set to return for the third and final leg of the Independence Day Weekend of Speed on July 5.
With the opening nine nights of action in the books for the ASCS Gulf South Region, Chris Sweeney of Channelview, TX, is out to the early points lead as he pursues his first series title. Sweeney is currently 36 points ahead of three-times series runner-up Greg Rilat, with 2006 series champion Gary Watson and 17-year-old Channin Tankersley tied for third, 66 points out of the lead. Defending series champion Brandon Berryman rounds out the current top five.The ASCS Gulf South Region is currently slated for 24 nights of racing action at ten different tracks throughout Texas and Louisiana in 2008.
The nation's most prominent Sprint Car sanctioning body with a dozen different Regions throughout the United States in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, the American Sprint Car Series' (ASCS) 17th year of action will include approximately 250 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout 28 different states and Canada.
