Jason Johnson Strikes Again with ASCS Gulf South Win at Motorama
BEAUMONT, Texas (September 28, 2007) -- Jason Johnson notched his 15th overall American Sprint Car Series feature win of the year by topping Friday night's 25-lap ASCS Gulf South main event at Motorama Speedway.
Starting on the front row outside, "The Ragin' Cajun" beat polesitter Johnny Miller into the first turn and led the entire distance aboard Lanny Row's Wesmar-powered The Shop Motorsports/Custom Equipment Design No. 41 Eagle.
Miller chased Johnson in the early rounds before Travis Rilat took over on the sixth circuit, two laps after the race's first caution flew for a Dustin Morgan spin.
Action was interrupted again at the midway point when Kent Lewis, Jr., flipped without injury.
Undeterred, Johnson led the rest of the way and took the checkered flag in front of Rilat and Miller, with Ray Allen Kulhanek in fourth. Eric Baldaccini took fifth from Tommy Bryant on the 22nd lap only to be disqualified when he failed to report to the scales.
Bryant assumed the fifth position, with Brad Best taking sixth. Skip Wilson earned Hard Charger honors by racing from 16th to seventh and more importantly edged ahead of Brandon Berryman in the series championship points race.
Scottie McDonald was eighth, with Berryman and Gary Watson completing the top ten.
Miller, Berryman, Larry Howery and Johnson topped heat race action, with Watson winning the "B" Main.
