October 31, 1998 IN VICTORY LANE AT GREENWOOD VALLEY By Than Mitchell
Bree Boyer, Bloomsburg, decided to try moving from the Rookies to the Regular Micro Sprints for the last Feature race of the season at the Greenwood Valley Action Track. Starting from the pole put Boyer in the lead from the start, then good driving kept her there and brought her home fiirst when the checkered flag fell on the end of the race and the season. The Boyer clan, Mom, Dad, and brother Brent were on hand to congratulate the winner and share the emotional moment. Blaine Heimbach, Selinsgrove was second followed by Joe Bednarski, Wyoming; Nick Lannan, Montoursville; Kevin Nolf; Brent Boyer, Bloomsburg; Eric Heydenreich, Bloomsburg; A.J.Walters, Bloomsburg; Jason Kemp, Bloomsburg and Colby Womer, Mt. Pleasant Mills.
Another first time winner took home the top prize in the Rookie Micro Feature. Driving a Micro Sprint for the first time, Ross Perchak of Hazelton, used the skills which earned him second place in the final Points Standing in the Adult Caged Kart Class and made the victory look easy. In Victory Lane, Perchak's father, Steve, took some credit for coming up with the winning set-up as he beamed with pride for the new Micro Sprint driver and first time winner. Across the line after Perchak came C.J. Jones, Hellertown; Scott Tate, Middleburg; Rick Yanac, Hazelton; Dan Kanagy; Charlie Palmucci; Rick Morris; Catawissa; Dale Thomas and Shannon Stahl.
Greenwood Valley Action Track welcomed another former regular competitor when Johnny Heydenreich, Bloomsburg, visited The Action Track to watch cousins Eric and Whitney Heydenreich race. Johnny Heydenreich, who races Midgets on the national racing circuit is recovering from the physical consequences of a couple of jarring accidents. He expects to return to competition soon. Johnny commented that learning on a small dirt oval, like the Greenwood Valley Action Track has translated directly to the much higher powered midgets.
