With meteorological traffic as heavy as that on The Greenwood Valley Action Track, Saturday night's dirt track show was in danger of becoming mud bogging. Yet, as Action Track fans and competitors well know, seldom are events rained out in Greenwood Valley and the full show was run albeit with pauses for passing precipitation.
Running a novel format, the Regular Micro Sprint Feature saw Joe Bednarski of Wyoming hold first at the end of the first 14-lap stage at which time, the field halted for 5 minutes and 44 seconds. During the scheduled in-field pit stop, adjustment could be made to the machines before resuming the contest. Bednarski retained the lead on the re-start and held on to the checkered flag. Because he led the first 14 lap segment, Bednarski pocketed additional $100 along with the $25 awarded by Brian Wawroski's Commercial Stainless of Bloomsburg, and making for an good Saturday night's work!
Jeff Furlong, Selinsgrove, managed to charge through heavy lapped traffic for a second place finish while Colby Womer was third, Eric Perchak, Hazelton, Nick Lannan, Montoursville and Brian Kishbaugh, Nescopeck were fourth through sixth. Seventh finisher was Jake Park, Rome, eighth and ninth were Neil Petock, Bloomsburg and David Utt, Catawissa. Eric Heydenreich, Bloomsburg, was tenth.
Only eight of the 24 starters were still running by the time the checkered flag humanly brought an end to a rain and mishap marred Rookie Micro Sprint Feature Scott Lawrence, Conklin, NY, finally won the feature which saw few runs of more than a lap before another caution fell. Finishing second was Ross Perchak, Hazelton, while Wye Mills, MD resident, Ashley "Mooch" Parlett, hung on for third. Fourth in line was A.J. Bast from Tower City, fifth was Lee Benjamin, Berwick, while sixth place went to Jason Wagner. The final two were Abe Messersmith, Bloomsburg, and Shane Penny.
The 1100 cc Mini Sprint cars visited the track on Saturday night as Rob Howell, Milton was first, Jeff Paulson, Honey Brook, second, and Greg Deets, Hazelton, was third as the high powered mini sprints ran a close and exciting race.
Next Saturday Night is Pepsi Night, when the purchase of a slice of pizza gets you a free Pepsi. Family fun, and good food add to the good times at The Greenwood Valley Action Track, about 3 miles from Millville on route 254.
