October 24, 1998 IN VICTORY LANE AT GREENWOOD VALLEY By Than Mitchell
John Wagner, Jr. and his father travel to the Greenwood Valley Action Track from Flemington, NJ, nearly every weekend to participate in Micro Sprint action. The travel paid off on a cold and fall-like evening for both family members as John Jr. won the Micro Sprint Feature and the senior Wagner managed a sixth place finish. In Victory Lane, the younger Wagner said that he really enjoys the track and the people involved and will be back next week for the final event of the season. Following Wagner across the line was Joe Bednarski, Wyoming; Jeff Furlong, Selinsgrove; Jason Kemp, Bloomsburg; Heath Hehnly; John Wagner, Sr.; Brian Kishbaugh, Nescopeck; Eric Heydenreich, Bloomsburg; Bree Boyer, Bloomsburg and Jake Park, Rome.
Neil Petock has run his last Rookie Micro Sprint race at the Action Track. The Bloomsburg resident won if fourth Rookie Feature promoting him to the ranks of the Regulars. Driving a car he and his partner, Kelly Yeshimski, purchased in the past week, Petock managed to hang on first during an incident marred event. In the Winner's Circle, Neil thanked all who have helped him prepare his ride from week to week and noted that it might be tough racing against the "big guys." Trying to catch Petock, but coming home second was C.J. Jones, Hellertown followed by Rick Morris, Catawissa; Rich Mitchell, Mortonville; Jason Wagner, Port Trevorton; John Gross, Harveys Lake; Gary Payne, Bloomsburg; Dale Thomas; Frank Petti, and Dan Kanagy.
A highlight of the evening was the appearance of Blaise Alexander, former Action Track regular and current Busch Grand National driver. The Montoursville's native borrowed a car from Eric Perchak and placed 13th in the Micro Sprint Feature. Alexander enjoyed his return to the dirt circuit and said that he is looking for a sponsor for next year on the Grand National schedule. ARCA Rookie of the Year in 1996, Alexander had a frustrating '98 on the Busch Circuit
One more weekend of racing remains at the Action Track, weather permitting. Halloween activities will get started when the pit gates opening as 2:00 pm, and warm-ups getting underway by 4:30 PM. Call ahead to check on the race status in the even of bad weather; 717-458-5142. With most other racing facilities in the area closed for the season, racers from everywhere are invited to join in the last week of dirt track racing excitement at The Greenwood Valley Action Track, 3 1/2 miles east of Millville.
