September 5, 1998 IN VICTORY LANE AT GREENWOOD VALLEY By Than Mitchell
Jason Kemp, Bloomsburg, started on the pole in the Regular Micro Sprint Feature at the Greenwood Valley Action Track on Saturday night, then stayed out front to the checkered flag. Kemp was hounded by a line of top Action Track hot shoes, but kept his cool, threading his way through traffic and bringing home his first Micro Sprint trophy of the year. Finishing behind Kemp's #28 was Jeff Furlong, Selinsgrove; Steve Lenig, Selinsgrove; David Utt, Bloomsburg; Colby Womer, Mt. Pleasant Mills; Eric Perchak, Hazelton; Joe Bednarski, Wyoming, PA; Brent Boyer, Bloomsburg; Ryan Frable, Penn Argyl and Henry Schlegal.
The Rookie Micro Sprint Feature saw Brayden Winters cross the line first. For several weeks, Brayden's machine has sported a For Sale sign. After starting on the pole and managing to get creative restarts after each yellow flag, he frustrated the rest of the field. Winters may have to reconsider selling the #2B. Following Winters across the line was Jared Ferri, Gouldsboro; George Nardelli; Eric Heydenreich, Bloomsburg; Neil Petock, Bloomsburg; Chad Thomas, New Berlin; Scott Lawrence, Conklin, NY Jerry Mack, Selinsgrove; Billy Graves, Port Crane, NY; and Bree Boyer, Bloomsburg.
Part of the show at the Greenwood Valley Action Track this past week was the appearance of the Tobias Slingshot, a 600 cc twin cylinder racing machine with the look of a modified and a very low initial investment. Jerry Creveling announced on Saturday evening that the Slingshot class will be racing on the regular schedule next year.
Many drivers and fans stayed after the feature events to enjoy the annual corn roast put on by the Crevelings to show their appreciation to the participants, the crews and the fans who make racing so enjoyable.
Our sympathies go out to Gerry, Cindy, and Tiffany Creveling and the rest of the family and friends of Buck Creveling who passed away early in the morning Saturday after a long illness. Buck never missed a race until he became ill a few months ago. At the request of his son Gerry, the ambulance took a slow lap around the Greenwood Valley Action Track in the early morning darkness. Buck will be sorely missed by everyone.
