The Greenwood Valley Action Track's final "Firecracker 500" of the century is history and Central Pennsylvania's most prestigious Micro Sprint race of the summer was won by Brad McClelland, a driver with more than 100 Feature wins on myriad east coast dirt tracks. What could have been a battle to the wire changed dramatically when Action Track regular, Joe Bednarski, fell out of the competition when his engine failed. With the Wyoming native in the pits, McClelland had the rest of the field covered and drove his PMP Chassis machine home with relative easy to take the $1200 winner's purse. Jeff Furlong, Selinsgrove, unable to catch the hard charging leader, came in second and Colby Womer who lives in Mt. Pleasant Mills, was moments away from passing Furlong when the checkered flag was waved. Fourth was Blane Heimbach, Selinsgrove, and, newly graduated from the Rookie Micro ranks, Eric Heydenreich was fifth. Heath Heanly was sixth with the rest of the field consisting of Joe Trone, Jr., Berwick, Rick Tanner, Neil Petock, Bloomsburg, and finally Ed Krupa rounding out the top ten.
Mike Keppler, Bechtelsville, continued the recent migration of winners from the Micro Sprint Rookie division as he tallied his fourth win this year. Geoff Hogan of Plymouth tried unsuccessfully to get around Keppler, settling for second. Brian Powell managed a third and Don Hildebrandt brought his car in to claim fourth. The rest of the top ten; Chad Thomas, New Berlin in fifth, three time Feature winner, Ashley Parlett from Wye Mills, MD, sixth, and Ralph Ferraro, North Plains NJ, Jason Wagner, Tom Michaelesco, Freeland and Jerry Mack, Selinsgrove, seventh through tenth.
The Greenwood Valley Action Track and B & M Motor Sports combined to offer a winner's purse of $1200 and many race fans and businesses sponsored individual laps adding cash incentives. With Micro Sprint manufacturers and suppliers adding bonus awards, Saturday night's competition was more exciting than ever.
Go-karts were also involved in a major chase for a Briggs and Stratton kart engine and $250 discount on a Twister Chassis from Miller Racing. Matt Hummel, Northumberland, claimed the motor and Dave Martin, Selinsgrove, got the certificate.
Join the action as it continues next Saturday night at The Greenwood Valley Action Track, located three miles east of Millville just off route 254. Great racing, good food, and great people make The Action Track the place to be for family fun.
