Rager Races to 4th Straight MSS Victory
Roger Rager came into the night on a hot streak with the MSS as he was 3 for 3 on the season. The Pequot Lakes, MN pilot extended his unbeaten streak as he defeated a 20-car field at the scenic Fox Ridge Speedway in Arcadia, WI last Friday night.
Rager started the A-main on the outside of the front row alongside Justice Brothers Fast Dash winner, Jimmy Kouba. Rager took the advantage and held it through two yellow flag periods for the #85 of Johnny Parsons III. Kouba began to close the gap just as Rager was approaching lapped traffic and even pulled alongside down the backstretch, but a yellow for the stalled car of John Wycoff put Kouba behind Rager again.
On the restart, Rager went untouched as he stretched his lead out to take the eventual win and $1,000 winner's check. Rager's car stalled in turn 2 after taking the checkers because he was out of fuel. Jimmy Kouba held off his brother Joe, who had charged from 8th to 3rd at the finish. John Nelson moved to fourth at the finish as he nearly passed Joe Kouba in the late stages. Bill Boles rounded out the top five in his first visit to the Fox Ridge Speedway. Heats for the 20 MSS sprinters went to Rager, Nelson, and Alan Gilbertson.
The next stop on the 2001 MSS schedule is Friday night, August 17th at the Kopellah Speedway in St. Croix Falls, WI.
