SYRACUSE, N.Y. - On Wednesday night, May 23, the Empire Super Sprint (ESS) Tour 2001 visits the high banked Fulton Speedway to provide and early kick off to the Memorial Day Weekend. The special event marks the 60th time the winged machines will attack the Central, N.Y. facility located just 25 miles North of Syracuse.
The high banks and wide turns of the 3/8ths mile Fulton oval brings out the best in dirt track racing sprint cars. With the DIRT Sportsman and Central New York Mini-Sprints also on the card fans can expect a wild show that promises to be done early on the weeknight.
For all the competitors and fans of ESS, everyone hopes the third time will be the charm as the May date fell victim to the weather the previous two seasons. Last year an August make-up date was used which saw local star Dan Kaszubinski take one of his four checkered flags during the Tour 2000 season.
Following the New York native "Kaz Man" across the line in the 20 lap A-main was Connecticut's Scott Holcomb and Canadian Rick Wilson. All three ESS stars will be in the pits on May 23 along with local favorites Doug Emery, who is currently leading points with the United Racing Club and will be making his return to ESS, R.C. Faigle and Mike Bozzuto.
Three Brodix Cylinder Heads heat events will kick off the nights action followed by the KSE Racing Products B-Main, the Walt's Hobby Dash and the 20 lap finale paying $1150 to win plus bonuses.
The event marks the second of four "Black Rock Bonu$" qualifiers for the third annual Bully Hill Vineyards Super Sprint Fall Nationals held Sept. 8 at the Black Rock Speedway. The winner of the Fulton event will garner an extra $100 and special trophy if he or she qualifies for the Fall Nationals.
Over 30 winged sprinters, natural clay surface, a cozy Wednesday night near the Oswego River, ah.....It's excitement guaranteed!!!
