Empire Super Sprints return to Utica-Rome Speedway for a super dirt week special.

VERNON- The curtains close on the Utica-Rome Speedway on Wednesday, October 9th, when Nice 'N Easy Grocery Shoppes presents the Empire Super Sprints (ESS), Central New York Mini-Sprints, DIRT Pro Stocks, and Pure Stocks. The Pure Stocks will be racing for $400 to win in their feature event. Gates open at 5pm, with racing at 7pm.

ESS put on a fantastic show in their first date at Utica-Rome Speedway on Labor Day weekend, when Dan Kaszubinski took the checkered. Kaszubinski had his hands full throughout the race, first with early leader Mike Lutz, then Bubby Kerrick and Jeff VanDusen in the later stages of the event. The sprinters blistered the fast half-mile, with Ryan Coniam setting the fast pace with a 17.540 second lap for an average speed of 102.623 mph. More ESS stars expected to be in action are 2002 ESS Champion Mike Woodring, Lance Yonge, Bill Coffey, Mike Stelter, Rob Dietrick, and Erin Crocker. Thirty-seven sprinters entered the event on Labor Day weekend.

Also, the CNY Mini-Sprints make their return, with Dave Norrie taking the win in their previous visit. The DIRT Pro Stocks will be on hand for a normal show, while the Pure Stocks will contest for $400 to win. Utica-Rome Speedway management felt that with every other regular class at the speedway having run for a higher purse event, the Pure Stocks should have their own event. This event should bring out the best drivers in the Pure Stock division.

Utica-Rome Speedway is located on Route 5 in Vernon, just minutes from New York State Thruway Exit 33. To reach the speedway from the New York State Fairgrounds, take the NYS Thruway to Exit 33, turn right on to Route 365 then turn right at the light on to Route 31. Take Route 31 for 4 miles until you get to Vernon, and turn left at the light on to Route 5. Take Route 5 for about a mile, and the speedway is on the left hand side of Route 5. For more information, call the speedway office at (315)829-4557, or log on to the website at www.uticaromespeedway.com.
