VERNON, NY - The highly popular alcohol powered Empire Super Sprints (ESS) will return to Utica-Rome Speedway this Sunday September 2 for the first time since 1996 for the much-anticipated "Winged Warrior Invasion". Also scheduled for the Labor Day Weekend special will be the DIRT 358-Modifieds plus the final night of points for the DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Slingshots. Race time at the historic Oneida County track is set for 6pm.

Nothing but the very best ESS drivers from all over the Northeastern United States plus Canada will all be on hand for the return of "America's Race Cars" to Utica-Rome. Current ESS point leader and one time Utica-Rome feature winner Mike Woodring leads all competitors who will be invading the Utica-Rome half-mile to turn in lightning quick record lap times in the 20-lap special. Just some of the other top winged warriors on hand in search of victory laurels will be Dan Kaszubinski, Lance Yonge, Mike Stelter, Steve Dowe, Doug Emery, Bobby Podolak, George Ely, Crash Nash, Bill Coffey, Bubby Kerrick, Randy Years, R.C. Faigle, and teenage sensation Kyle Drum. Popular Canadian drivers such as Alain Bergeron, Ryan Coniam, and Rick Wilson will also be on hand for the "Winged Warrior Invasion". Drivers will be competing in the Brodix Cylinder Heads heat events, the KSE Racing Products B-Main along with the Walt's Hobby Dash Series event and the spectacular 20-lap A-Main.

With the DIRT 358-Modified points all decided and top drivers Todd Burley, Jack Johnson, and Ryan Baye away at Super DIRT Series events, you never know who might end up in victory lane at the conclusion of the 30-lap DIRT 358-Modified feature. Just some of the drivers searching for victory will be Roger Phelps, Mitch Gibbs, Wayne Reutimann, John Barker, J.J. Michaels, John Ramsey, Steve Hulsizer, Jim Rothwell, and Ted Lamb.

The battle for the track championships and top points drivers in the DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Slingshots will all be decided this Sunday. Tim Clemons has the upper hand in the DIRT Sportsman as he looks forward to his first career Utica-Rome track championship, but Jamie Christian and Willy Decker each have a mathematical shot as of this writing. In the DIRT Pro Stocks, a heated battle for the championship is the headline story, as both point leader Bret Belden and runner-up Jerry Holmes are separated by just fourteen points to date. Belden will be racing for his third track title, and Holmes would like to become a two-time track champion. Jeff Pastorella has the Pure Stock title locked up and in the Slingshots, leader Denny Tilison, Randy Marsh, and Mike Teachout all have a shot at glory.

The gates this Sunday September 2 at Utica-Rome Speedway will open at 4pm, with racing beginning promptly at 6pm. The track is located on Route 5 in Vernon and is easily accessible from New York State Thruway Exit 33. Free parking and overnight camping is allowed on speedway grounds.
