SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- He's young and he's exciting behind the wheel of an open wheel sprint car. In 2007 sprint fans can expect to see Edenburg, N.Y.'s Cory Sparks at each and every event on the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) tour. The former Central New York Mini Sprint title holder has been a part-time sprint pilot for two years now but he is ready to help ESS celebrate its 25th season.
"This is something that I've wanted to do since I got into sprint car racing, follow the full ESS tour." said the enthusiastic, just turned 21 year old talented chauffeur. "We're a working family and just didn't have the time or help to do it right so we pick and chose our races the past two seasons. Now with the addition of crew chief Jeff Ferguson we can hit the road this year and see what we can do."
Talent never has been the question from the Sparks camp. In 2004 he took home nine wins and 13 top two finishes total in 15 events in route to the mini sprint title. After his successful 12 win overall campaign, it was decided to move on to full fledge sprints with the help of friend John Karklin Jr. While going through the usual "rookie" ups and downs many noticed that the speed and know how was definitely there. Last season several top ten finishes came his way and the '07 season looks bright.
"We're ready, we will have two cars and two motors along with the great help from my mom and dad, who own the car, as well as Denny Mycik and Larry VanEpp who will help Jeff on the crew I think we will give it a shot at the top ten in points." noted Sparks "ESS is the premiere club around and to get an A-Main win will just make this a great year for us. We will be there hoping that can happen.
A brand new Maxim from Zemco Speed Equipment will be the primary mount with power coming from Don Ott as well as a Doug Emery built motor for a back-up. Sponsorship will be from Killer Grafix, Powdertech and Farrell Oil all who have been behind the Sparks family for many seasons.
Fans will get the first view of the mount at the annual Motorsports Expo held on March 9-11 in Syracuse, N.Y. where he will be a big part of the ESS booth. It will be the first showing for the 25th season which will see the stars and cars of the successful 360 sanctioning group campaign in well over 30 events.
