SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- On May 26th, 1990, the winged warriors of the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) made their last visit to the quarter-mile speedway in Kirkwood, N.Y. known as the Five Mile Point Speedway. Under the promotion of Andy Harpell, the 21 year old sprint car organization will showcase it's final point show as a part of the National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Weekend, on Friday night, Sept. 24th .

Going into the historic evening, Lance Yonge leads Dan Kaszubinski by a mere 23 points as both drivers will be looking for their first ever ESS title. Not only is their a tight battle for the championship but for third place in the final points as well with second generation driver Jeff VanDusen leading Doug Emery but just 12 points as both drivers will be looking for their highest placing in the points in their careers.

The young VanDusen will lead the brigade of the ESS Tour 2004 as he currently holds the track record which he did a few years ago during an open competition show. The family business, ProSpas from Otego, N.Y. owned and operated by his parents Mike and Deb will also sponsor the night's activities. Joining the top four in the season long points will be A-Main winners during 2004, John Karklin Jr., Jeff Cook, Billy Krull and Nick Fratto. Also, Bubby Kerrick, Don Sharp Jr., Mike Stelter, Tim Kelly and Justin Barger will be out looking for their first wins of the season.

Five Mile as seen a resurgence in 2004 with Harpell at the helm. Many improvements have been made to the 50 plus year old facility and bringing back ESS is just a small part in this a headline making season. With no other sprint races in the area along with $1550 to win, $250 just to start ESS purse, a big field of sprinters will be on hand to kick off the big two day weekend.
