SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Empire Super Sprint (ESS) "dynamic duo" from Quebec, Canada claimed honors in the annual North American 360 Sprint Car Poll. First year sensation Steve Poirier took home Rookie of the Year honors and also placed 25th in the Driver of the Year standings. Champion Alain Bergeron places 16th in the Driver of the Year standings as well.

Coming from the world of DIRT modifieds, the driver from St. Mathieu de Beloeil set the ESS world on fire by taking home five A-Main wins total including the second annual Canadian Sprint Car Nationals at the Ohsweken Speedway. Poirier came from not qualify for the first ESS event in 2006 to an outside title shot going into the final weekend on the tour placing fourth in the overall point standings. He defeated Brett Miller, Davey Sammons and Channin Tankersley for the 360 poll award. With his outstanding efforts in '06, he tied with Missouri's Randy Martin for 25th in the driver of the year standings.

In what was an incredible year for the French speaking province of Canada, St. Pie's Bergeron claimed his first ever ESS title and was noticed from coast to coast. In the final Driver of the Year poll he placed in 16th place right behind Florida great Kenny Adams. While going winless last season, one of the most incredible streaks of consistency was key to the championship.

Also making headlines was two-time ESS winner on '06, Chuck Hebing, as he placed fifth in the Driver of the Year standings. Hebing will be a some of the ESS events again next year.

Both Poirier and Bergeron will be entering the 2007 season, with just one goal; for Poirier it's his first ESS title, for Bergeron it will be to repeat as champion. The 25th season for the successful 360 sprint car organization will once again be full of highlights and memories as near 30 dates are set on the schedule.
