Empire Super Sprints Tour 2002 kicks back into gear at Little Valley on Sept. 21.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- After running 24 consecutive race dates in a row since June 28, the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) Tour 2002 got a well deserved weekend off. With the completion of the exciting Bully Hill Nationals it's back to work in hopes of collecting the ESS championship on Saturday night, Sept. 21 at the Little Valley Speedway.
All importance goes to the season long points standings as the event will mark the second to last full point show of the long Tour 2002. A record points fund awaits all the stars and cars from ESS and the big half-mile fairgrounds oval will be a challenging stage for all competitors on hand.
With the rain out on June 14th, this night marks the one and only appearance of the winged warriors and a huge crowd is expected to fill the 3000 seat grandstand. It will be billed as the open cockpit reunion as many stars from years gone by that competed at the Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds will be on hand as well as many cars from yesteryear will be on display.
Seven-time ESS champion Mike Woodring is the odds on favorite to capture the ESS title for 2002 and he's heading to one of his favorites stomps on the tour. Since 1997 when ESS made it's first stop to Little Valley, Woodring has collected five A-Main triumphs, three more than his nearest competitor. Lance Yonge is second in points with an outside chance of capturing the Eden, N.Y. star. Yonge is also a feature will at Little Valley with a win in June of 2000.
Other top ESS stars that will fill the pits will be third placeman in points and VSM Abrasives Canadian Invasion point champion Ryan Coniam, past Little Valley winners Tom Taber, Tim Kelly and Randy Years. Local favorites, Tim and Jared Zimbardi along with Phil Mott will give the crowd something to cheer about.
Three, $100 to win George Redeye sponsored Brodix Cylinder Heads heat events will kick off the action followed by the Moore's Sugar Shack/Walt's Hobby Dash and the KSE Racing Products B-Main. The night will end under the lights with the 20 lap A-Main.
Gates open early at 3 p.m. with racing starting at 6. The Bicknell Racing Products big block modified tour will also be on tap making for a big night of dirt track racing. Little Valley, the best of "America's Race Cars" will be coming to your house and it will be excitement guaranteed!!!
