Kyle Moffit Ends Bad Luck Streak by Blitzing ESS Field at Frogtown.

HOGANSBURG, N.Y. - It's mid-July and it has just been a season to forget for 2004 Empire Super (ESS) Sprint rookie of the year Kyle Moffit. Three months of heartbreak and bad finishes were all erased Saturday night at the Frogtown Speedway when the South Dayton, N.Y. teenager led all 25 laps to win the A-Main event in convincing fashion.

While to the eye, it looked like a walk in the park for the driver of the unsponsored #77, J&J chassis sprint car as he just pulled away from all competitors with ease. There was one aspect of the race that could spell disaster that no one knew until victory lane. "I lost one of my contacts when the caution came out on lap 10!" Moffit told the crowd who responded with disbelief. "It just fell out and I really didn't know if I should pull in or not. It's been such a tough year so far so I figured that since I was leading I was going to give it a shot."

What he called a shot, or basically a chance turned into one of the most dominating performances of the ESS Tour 2005. Taking advantage of his pole starting spot, Moffit just took to the tacky half-mile oval like a kid with candy. Turning amazing laps in the 13 second range he quickly opened up distance on his rivals Randy Years and Luke Eriksen.

During the course of the 25 laps, the lone caution on lap 10 and lapped traffic (along with the missing contact) was his biggest rivals but neither proved to be a match for Moffit. "The car was the best it was all year. We didn't change too much, we finally put a new right rear on and changed shocks on the left side but that was it." said in his normal calm tone. "I just like tracks like this where you can run hard, the lapped cars didn't give me too many problems so I just kept it wide open all race. This is cool, we needed the win and hopefully we will have a good second half."

With Moffit in his own little world, both Years and Eriksen put on a pleasing battle for second that lasted a good 20 laps with Years coming out on top for a fine finish of his own. Both Nick Fratto and Dan Kaszubinski made late race passes on Eriksen for third and fourth with the Manchester, Vt. driver in for fifth. Rounding out the top ten were Alain Bergeron, Jeff Cook, Don Sharp Jr., Rick Wilson, and Edelweiss winner Doug Norrie.

The one caution on lap 10 was for a spun Bobby Breen but he continued for the remainder of the distance.

Taking the Car Mate Trailer heat events were Eriksen, Years and Bergeron with the Walt's Hobby Dash won by Kaszubinski and the KSE Racing Products B-Main won by Blake Breen.

ESS NOTES: Despite threatening weather throughout upstate N.Y. a good field of 26 sprints were on hand...Unlike last year, the hot air balloons stayed high in the air with the show completed just after 10 PM with a dust free surface showcasing the blazing speeds of the sprint cars...Kaszubinski advanced 10 spots to collect the Lane's Yamaha hard charger bonus...With added bonuses, Moffit's winner's share topped the $2,000 mark which will help the low funded, family operated team.
