The 15 Year Wait is Over for the Evans Mills Speedway and Empire Super Sprints.
On Thursday night, July 15th the stands will be packed for the return of the Empire Super Sprints, one of the nations largest and most exciting 360 sprint car organizations, to the little Northern, N.Y. hamlet of Evans Mills and the Evans Mills Speedway. Back on June 25th, 1989, Nassau, N.Y.'s Robbie Hart graced victory lane in the final ESS event held at the exciting 1/3rd mile oval.
After a long 15 year wait, the smell of alcohol and the speed of winged sprint cars will keep the fans on edge from green to checker. The traveling road show of ESS will make a second appearance on Thurs., August 12th as well to make for two dates as a must see for all fans in the north country.
The speed plant located just miles from the Fort Drum Army base has struggled to survive during its long history of being both a dirt and asphalt facility. After sitting nearly one year dormant, the brother combination of Billy and Charlie Caprara have decided to take on a long term lease of Evans Mills and put clay back on the circular shaped oval. A Thursday night race night was set up to make for a great three race weekend with Brockville Ontario Speedway on Fri. (co-promoted by Paul Kirkland and Charlie Caprara) and the Can-Am Motorsports park on Sat. owned by the Caprara brothers.
The winged warriors of ESS will make two stops at each track as well; Brockville and Can-Am will kick off Memorial Day weekend on May 28 & 29. The second Can-Am event is on July 3rd while the second Brockville date will follow the August 12th Evans Mills event. The Caprara family have been big supporters of ESS as well as sponsors by providing the pace track that is seen at each ESS event.
The ESS Tour 2004 is already 30 dates strong with more possibly being added in the very near future. Coming off the heels of a 14 year hiatus to the Five Mile Point Speedway comes a 15 year wait to make a big return to Evans Mills. The anticipation continues to build and the 2004 season will be excitement guaranteed!!!
