VERNON, NY: The Empire Super Sprints Tour 2001 will make their much-anticipated return to the New Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday September 2 for their first appearance since 1996. The alcohol powered ESS sprints, known fondly as "America's Race Cars" will turn in record lap times on the lightning quick Utica-Rome half-mile clay oval in the show dubbed as the "Winged Warrior Invasion".
"We are really excited to have ESS back at Utica-Rome," said Track Promoter Eric Kingsley. "We are sure that race fans will see a tremendous action packed show that they will not soon forget."
The ESS winged warriors will surely delight area Sprint Car fans as they blister the fast and smooth Utica-Rome surface. The very best Sprint Car drivers in the Northeastern United States will be on hand to try to take home the all-important victory, which will be the first ESS race at Utica-Rome in over five years and the only Sprint Car race on the Utica-Rome 2001 schedule.
Just some of the top names on hand will be 2000 ESS tour champion Mike Woodring, Lance Yonge, Dan Kaszubinski, Bobby Podolak, Mike Stelter, Randy Years, George Ely, Tom Taber, Scott Holcomb, Bubby Kerrick, Rob Dietrick, Steve Dow, Doug Emery, R.C. Faigle, and Crash Nash. Canada will also be represented by Alain Bergeron, Ryan Coniam, and Rick Wilson. Drivers will be competing in the Brodix Cylinder Heads heat events, the KSE Racing Products B-Main along with the Walt's Hobby Dash Series event and the spectacular 20-lap A-Main.
ESS President Dick Carbery is very excited about the return of his organization to Utica-Rome. "In the 17 year history of ESS some of our most exciting races have been at what is now the New Utica-Rome Speedway," said Carbery. "We missed being off the schedule and can promise a kick-butt show that leaves the fans yelling for more."
In previous ESS competition at Utica-Rome, Bobby Parrow has two feature wins, which leads ten different drivers with one win each including Gordy Button, Mike VanDusen, George Sifo, Robbie Hart, Mal Lane, Bob Podolak, Jeff Thomas, Lance Yonge, and Mike Woodring.
When ESS last visited Utica-Rome on September 1, 1996, Parrow went home with the victory. Craig Lane, Mike Woodring, Mike Stelter, and Dan Kaszubinski followed Parrow across the line.
Drivers, officials, and race fans are eagerly anticipating the return of the Empire Super Sprints to the New Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday September 2. Also in competition on the Labor Day Weekend program will be the DIRT 358-Modifieds, DIRT Sportsman, DIRT Pro Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Slingshots, and it will be the final points night for all divisions.
