SYRACUSE, N.Y. - In what has seem to be an eternity, the Empire Super Sprint (ESS) Tour 2001 season will finally get underway Sat., May 12 at the Canandaigua Speedway. Because of the rain out at Black Rock Speedway back on April 14, the track known as the "Land of Legends" will kick off the half a million dollar tour.

The tacky, fast half-mile located on the Ontario County Fairgrounds is always a favorite of many ESS competitors. High speeds and side by side action is the rule and with the powerful DIRT modifieds on the same card, this makes it a not to be missed event!

Last year local favorite and former Canandaigua big block competitor, Lance Yonge, made a late race pass on Canadian Rick Wilson to collect his second win of the 2000 campaign. Wilson followed Yonge with six-time ESS champion Mike Woodring in third. Both Yonge and Woodring have been busy running their 410 sprinters tuning up for an all out assault on the ESS championship worth over $10,000 in cash and prizes.

Wilson is also a former DIRT star and he will bring the Charlie Price owned sprinter to Canandaigua looking for his first ever ESS A-Main win. Local stars, Mike Stelter, Bill Coffey, Steve Dow and Rob Dietrick will have many fans in the stands looking to celebrate in victory lane with their favorite driver.

The expected SRO crowd will see three Brodix Cylinder Heads heat events followed by the Speedway Performance/Walt's Hobby Dash and the KSE Racing Products B-Main. All that action leads up to the first 20 lap, $1150 to win A-Main on the 34 date Tour 2001.
