Empire Super Sprints season opener at Black Rock for this Saturday is still on.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Black Rock Speedway promoter Gary Montgomery is letting the word out that the 20th anniversary tour opener for the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) this Saturday is on as scheduled. The big double header of ESS sprinters and DIRT 358 modifieds will be action packed from green to checkered at the Yates County Oval.

"I'm tired, I'm tired of shoveling snow all day but we are ready!" said the first year promoter at the Lin and Cindy Hough promoted speedplant. "The track is ready, the pits are decent and half of the parking lot is in good shape. We have rented another parking lot and will bus people in so we are all set for this weekend."

A big field of race cars will fill the pits for the twin 25 lap feature program. The ESS sprinters will race for a record $1625 cash to win and with added bonuses that will swell to over $2,000. The 358's will race for a $2003 to win pot of gold making this one of the richest events per laps run in history. A possibility of 40 car fields in both divisions is being planned.

A special test, tune and tinker sessions will be held on Friday night for all divisions. Gates will open at five with cars on the track one hour later. Free admission to the grandstands for all fans while teams will be charged just $10 in the pits. Saturday will see the gates open at five with the first green flag being dropped at seven. Fans and teams are reminded that a special Sunday rain date has been set up with gates at noon and racing at two.

A special ESS autograph session held at the Gater News table just as the gates open will greet the fans on Saturday to help kick off the 20th anniversary celebration. Mother nature threw her best but Black Rock is not ready to give in, opening weekend is set and it will be excitement guaranteed!
