A record 37 dates fill the Empire Super Sprint Tour for 2002

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - It's the biggest and promising to be the best. A record total of 37 dates will fill the slate for the Empire Super Sprint (ESS) Tour 2002. From Vermont to Iowa, from Montreal, Quebec to Erie, Pa., the stars and cars from ESS will be invading 22 different tracks in four states and two Canadian Provinces.

It all starts on Saturday night, April 13 at Lin Hough's Black Rock Speedway and will conclude on Oct. 12, a Saturday night at the Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. There's 31 full point shows to provide the backbone for the half-a-million-dollar tour as well as many special events to spice up the 19th season for ESS.

Back on the tour for the first time since 1993 will be Harvey Fink's Brewerton Speedway. The D-shaped "Dirt Demon" will kick off a special three-race Memorial Day weekend. For the first time ever, the Cornwall Motor Speedway will hold two (June 23 and Aug. 18) ESS events and the Fulton Speedway visit will be on a more traditional Saturday night (July 27).

Several high paying events will help this make the Tour 2002 the most lucrative ever. Once again ESS will be a vital part of the Bully Hill Vineyards Fall Sprint Nationals which enters it's fourth year. The exciting two-day show (Sept. 6 & 7) will culminate with a 35 lap A-Main that will reward the winner a cool $4,000. May 11 at Canandaigua and the Fulton event will be Bully Hill Dash fo Cash qualifiers.

The ESS/URC Challenge Series will expand to two events this season with a first ever visit to the fast and wild Grandview Speedway (May 5) along with the traditional event at the Rolling Wheels as a part of Super DIRT Week. Each event will pay the winner at least $2,500. This will mark the ninth consecutive season that the best from ESS and the United Racing Club will battle it out for bragging rights in the Northeast along with providing exciting action for the sprint car fan..

After a two year absence, the Tournament of Champions for 360 sprint cars is back and it returns to the track where it got it's start...the famous Marion County Fairgrounds and the Knoxville Speedway. ESS will bring 10 of it's finest to challenge several other 360 organizations across the country to see who is the best in the nation. The winner of the A-Main on Sunday night, August 4, will pocket over $4,000.

Fans and competitors should take note that the addition of other shows is a possibilty and off dates can be used as potential rain dates.

For 2002, over $25,000 cash will be tallied for the year end point fund and new for 2002 will be the VSM Abrasives Canadian Invasion Tour. A special $5,000 point fund with $1,500 going to champion will be established with points earned for each show "North of the Border". With over 50 associate sponsors back in the fold with at least six new addtions to the ESS family, the 37 date tour will see the competitors bring home the most money and prizes ever.

Mike Woodring will be back this season looking to collect his eighth championship. While Woodring is the odds on favorite to take the point crown, the upcoming year will provide a new challenge has he will take on the role of car owner. Female sensation Erin Crocker will pilot the second Woodring entry in many ESS events. Woodring's stiffest challenge will be provided by stars such as Lance Yonge, Dan Kaszubinski, Steve Dow, Bill Coffey and a slew of 30 other top winged sprint car pilots.

The 2002 season will also see several former ESS stars back on the tour. Pa.'s George Suprick and Jeff Thomas along with N.Y.'s Tim Kelly and Gary Drum, all career ESS A-Main victors, have filed their entries. When ESS travels to a dirt track near you, you can expect truly some of the best to showcase "America's Race Cars"!!

The ESS Tour 2002, it's a mere three months away. Black Rock Speedway is the site, Saturday night, April 13th is the date...It will be excitement guaranteed!!!
