Turning Stone Casino Resort to hold Empire Super Sprints Banquet on November 16.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The final checkered flag of the Empire Super Sprints (ESS) Tour 2002 will come on Saturday night November 16 with the annual awards banquet in which the 19th season of exciting ESS action will be highlighted. This year will find the gala affair being held for the first time ever at the luxurious Turning Stone Casino Resort located in Verona, N.Y.
The Turning Stone is an enterprise of the Oneida Indian Nation and has opened its arms to the dirt racing community over the past couple of years. In 2001 DIRT Motorsports held its annual banquet there which drew rave reviews and a return visit was also planned. In 2002 the Turning Stone also became the DIRT's 358 modified series title sponsor furthering its commitment. Also in 2002, the Casino will now see the invasion from the world of dirt track sprint cars with the ESS banquet on the Saturday night in November.
The closing event of the ESS season will see over $35,000 cash being handed out to it's top drivers as well as over $40,000 more in prizes and contingencies. A base point fund of over $25,000 will highlight the evening as it will be distributed to the top 22 drivers in the season long points standings. The VSM Abrasives Canadian Invasion Series has a separate point fund of $5,000 which the top ten drivers in the races held north of the border will see extra dollars come their way from VSM.
Also on tap during the night will be other special awards which include the Walt's Hobby Dash Series point fund of $1000 to be split up among the top three drivers in dash series points. The Brodix Cylinder Heads heat race point fund will see another $1000 going to the top ten in heat race points. The Jereco Engines and Parts Rookie of the Year where the top first time driver will collect $500 cash. Another $500 going to the Brodix Cylinder Heads Hard Luck driver of the year. Other cash awards will be the Foar Score Fan Club most improved driver of the year, awards from Sander Engineering, MSD Ignitions, Outerwears, Car-Mate Trailers and Red's Speed Shop.
The annual rules meeting will precede the banquet festivities where teams that attended at least 10 ESS point shows will have a democratic vote for the rules to be enforced for the 2003 season. A block of rooms will be reserved for ESS guests at both the resort and the adjacent The Inn at The Turning Stone which offers a free shuttle service 24 hrs a day. Sprint cars from now and then will be on display at the Resort to add spice to the banquet festivities.
