Emhof Visits Victory Lane at Weedsport
Weedsport, NY - Mike Emhof and the rest of the Williamson, NY, based Branich Motorsports team visited Cayuga County Fairgrounds as the 2001 Central New York Mini Sprint (CNYMS) tour visited the home of DIRT Motorsports at Weedsport on June 24, 2001. Twenty-nine CNYMS teams crowded the infield pits for the event.
Emhof made the most of the opportunity to showcase team efforts before a "hometown" crowd and the team's local sponsors as he scored a perfect night, winning his qualifying heat race and then the 15 lap feature event.
Based on luck of the draw, Emhof started the second heat race with his Pace Electronics/Heluva Good Foods sponsored EMC mini sprinter on the inside of the third row. The race was stopped twice, when flipped mini sprints brought out the red flag. When racing resumed, Emhof moved towards the front, taking the lead on the last lap and holding off the competition to the checkered flag.
The CNYMS draw inverted the top 12 heat race finishers, placing Emhof 11th on the starting grid of 24 for the feature event. When the green flag flew, the pedal was to the metal and Emhof was off towards the front, taking the lead on lap 5. From there he never looked back, taking the checkered flag in the caution-free event well ahead of runner up Billy White, of East Canaan, CT. James Brush of Newfoundland, PA, was third. The feature victory was Emhof's first this year, and his 10th career CNYMS win overall. When the 2001 tour points to date are tallied, Emhof will move up from the third position he held going into the Weedsport race.
The next stop on the CNYMS tour will be at Thunder Mountain, Center Lisle, NY, on Saturday, July 7th.
