TAMPA, FL....l/15/99 - East Bay Raceway has made many improvements and things are in high gear preparing for an inaugural event in less than two weeks. The 23rd season at the 1/3 mile clay oval near Gibsonton, will kick off with a $51,000 three-day show titled, "The 360 King of the Winternationals," starting Thursday, January 28 through Saturday, January 30. The purse is one of the highest in the nation for the 360 cubic inch sprint cars and has already attracted. 59 entries from 11 states The home-based Florida Outlaw sprints will try to claim the lion's share of the puree, however, challenging for the right to wear the "360 King's Crown" will be the best in the business. Three-time ASCS (American Sprint Car Series) champion Terry Gray out of Memphis, Tennessee and NCRA (National Championship Racing Association) top-gun, Gary Wright out of Hooks, Texas might provide the local stars with competition at the highest level they have ever faced. Leading the 16 Florida entries will be Kenny Adams, East Bay's defending Sprint car champion in a new ride out of Pennsylvania. Brady Alvis, winner of the final regular feature event here, Robbie Smith, Joe Melnick, Sport Allen, Taylor Andrews, Pauley Milum., Gene Lasker, Red Stauffer, Darrin Miller, Mike Tharp, Roland Johnson, Frank Carlson, Sr., Randy Carr, Brian Maddox and Gregory Leonard will carry the state flag . A strong nine-car invasion from New York will include Mike Woodring with the ESS (Empire Super Sprints) and Mike Lauterborn. Texas will send four drivers, Pennsylvania - three; Delaware, Oklahoma, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey and Louisiana are sending two drivers each. Lone entries are towing in from Indiana, Iowa, Mississippi, Nebraska, Georgia, South Dakota and even Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Tickets are on sale daily at the track or by calling toll-free 1-877-457-5611 and use Mastercard or Visa. Up-coming events include the $150,000 Late Model Winternationals for Hav-a-Tampa cars on Wednesday, February 3 and STARS cars on February 4,5 and 6. The All Star Sprints will be in town for a $134,000 series, February 10-13. The track is located five miles south of 1-4 off Route 41 or take 1-75 to Exit 48 and go north on Route 41.
