CVRA Challenge Cup at Albany/Saratoga 2000-08-18

Scotia, NY - Twenty-seven mini sprint teams made the tow to Albany/Saratoga Speedway on Friday, August 18, 2000, for the Dow Corning/Kaman Industrial Technologies CVRA Mini Sprint Challenge Cup race, presented by HSBS. Don Harvey (Milford, NY) captured the 20 lap feature for his third Central New York Mini Sprint (CNYMS) win this year.

Lady luck placed big block modified driver, JR. Heffner (Averill Park, NY), on the pole with Dennis Fink (Germantown, NY) starting alongside. When the green flag was unfurled, Fink took the early lead as Harvey began his charge from the fourth starting position. Harvey took the lead on lap two and never looked back.

The red flag flew for Billy White (Sandisfield, MA) who flipped between turns three and four. The driver was uninjured, but car was retired to the pits. When the green flew, Harvey was still in the lead with Heffner in chase. At the finish line it was Harvey, Heffner, Fink, Jim Brush, and Peter Sindt, (Stone Ridge, NY) to round out the top fove. AJ Bagozzi, (Camillus, NY) finish sixth, and rookie Cory Sparks (Scotia, NY) finished an impressive seventh. Doug Norrie, (West Suffield, CT) crossed the line eighth, followed by Bobby Scaccio (Suffern, NY), and Todd Lapp (Accord, NY).

Heat races were won by Harvey, Brush, and Fink. The B-Main was won by White. In addition the the winner's purse, Harvey took home a cash bonus from Speedway Advertising for leading the most laps. He will receive a product award from Dow Corning. The Farrell Oil Contingency package was given to Fink, and the Seymore Enterprises gift certificate went to Heffner. The Weld Wheels Hard Charger Award went to Ryan Lund.

The Central New York Mini Sprinters will make their next voyage to Thunder Mountain Speedway on September 3, 2000, for a special Labor Day Weekend show.
